About the authors

Written by husband and wife, Michael and Linda Spangle, Acts of Compassion demonstrates ways that even the smallest acts of compassion can change people’s lives.

Michael Spangle, PhD is a communications professor at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. For the past 25 years he has taught courses in forgiveness, emotions, persuasion, conflict management, negotiation, and mediation.

As a professional mediator, he has helped organizations and individuals find solutions to conflict and settle long-standing disputes. In the Denver area, he has provided mediation for industries, city governments, schools, churches and hospitals.

Prior to working in higher education, Dr. Spangle served 16 years as a Chaplain in the U.S. Navy Reserve and 15 years as a church pastor.  In addition to his doctorate degree, he also holds masters degrees in counseling, ministry and education.

Dr. Spangle has co-authored four books as well as published many journal articles in his fields of study. His book, Forgiving Others, Forgiving Ourselves has been used as a learning guide for churches and small groups.

Linda Spangle, RN, MA, is a weight-management coach recognized nationally as a leading authority on emotional eating and other psychological issues of weight loss.

A registered nurse with a master’s degree in health education, Linda is a skilled teacher, counselor and writer. She is the owner of Weight Loss for Life, a healthy lifestyles coaching and training program.

Linda is the author of five internationally acclaimed books that address weight-loss barriers such as emotional eating, low motivation and sabotage. Several of her books, including Life is Hard, Food is Easy and Friends with the Scale, have won national awards.

In addition to being interviewed by hundreds of radio shows, newspapers and magazines, Linda has been a guest on numerous TV shows including Fox News and Lifetime TV. She has been quoted in nearly every major women’s magazine, including Shape, Women’s Day and O Magazine.
